Community Highlights
Grand Marais is designated as an Honorable Mention community because of its diverse partnerships that have formed to support active living and a more walkable community.
- The city has a Community-Wide Active Living Steering Committee and a Safe Routes to School committee to make recommendations for implementation of active living commitments. These advisory committees include city and county engineers, council members, and school officials. Invitations to participate in the Active Living Steering Committee are sent to targeted population representatives, including seniors and members of the disabled community.
- Grand Marais has multiple public health campaigns that promote walking, including the annual “Move it May” campaign and the “Winter Fun” campaign, which was launched in February 2013.
